Back To The Future: Fox and Stoltz Comparison

Michael J. Fox wasn't always Marty Mcfly?

Earlier thier week, Universal Studios released some footage of Eric Stoltz, who was originally cast to play Marty McFly in the 'Back to the Future' series. Spielberg and Zemeckis had the opportunity to shoot 5 weeks of footage with Stoltz before they decided he "was not right" for the picture. Supposedly they felt they were not getting the laughs they thought they would be getting in the film.

Fox was the original choice for the role, but was unable to make it work with his Family Ties schedule. But after the firing of Stoltz, Fox was able to convince the executives for the show to let him do the movie. (Good call).

The also replaced Marty McFly's sister, Melora Hardin, who is now best known for her role as 'Jan' in the office. She was considered "too tall" for Michael J. Fox and was replaced with an actress who was only an inch and a half shorter. Ouch.

There has been a ton of talk about the careers of the actors and actresses affected by the switch and how their careers could have played out accordingly. So be free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.
