Tin Can Lineup: Top 10 Coolest Movie Robots

I recently pulled the Tin Can Cinema team together to produce a few solid Top 10 lists for some pretty impressive film aspects.

Robots. Robots have been involved with film since the dawning of motion pictures. They bring together the sci-fi fiction aspects that lets the audience's minds wander and the possibility of what a world could be like with artificial intelligence.

These are the robots that you can cheer for, sympathize for, root against, and wish you could have in your everyday life. They were rated on level of 'badassness', cool robot abilities, humor, and hopefully doesn't make the movie suck too bad.

10. Mecha Godzilla
We've never seen the film. He has laser beam eyes, torpedo fingers, his head turns 360 degrees to create a force field, 8 stories high of metal, takes on Godzilla and Japan. If that's not good enough for you, then you need to just go home.

9. Gort
We're talking the Lock Martin verison of Gort, not the soft-ass Keanu Reeves. Gort took and aliens and bodyguards to another level. The Day the Earth Stood Still of 1951 pioneered the robot/alien world. Gort won audiences without CGI, just American film making.

8. T-1000(Liquid Metal Terminator)
One of the best 'bad' robots. Sent from the future to kill the leader of the human resistance (John Connor), before he has the chance to make it through Judgement Day. That description alone should be enough for you to agree with us.

7. Sid 6.7
Russel Crowe is slick, badass, and a cold hearted killer. Sid is a computer generated serial killer that escapes into the real world as an android type and is wreaking havoc. He makes the list on this clip alone.

6. Johnny 5 (Number 5)
Jonny 5 from 'Short Circuit' is the least 'badass' of the group. But man, he gives the best performance of a robot just trying to find his way. Johnny 5 has an ability to move audiences while keeping the comedic value at high levels. We also feel that a robot similar to Johnny 5 is as close as we currently on in reality on the level of robotics.

5.RoboCop
'Part Man. Part Machine. All Cop. The future of Law Enforcement.' A wounded cop facing certain near death is rebuilt as a futuristic cyborg ready to kick ass and take names. RoboCop is haunted with memories of his life as a human which brings rage. At times RoboCop can be a little soft, but he has no problem stopping crimes and eating bullets.

4. Evil Bill and Ted
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey is one of my favorite films. This film put Keanu Reaves on the map. These guys rank pretty high on the 'coolness' scale. They jam out, pig out, kiss human chicks, and kill their human counterparts.

3. C-3P0 and R2-D2
People don't give these guys enough credit. They may not rank high up on the 'badass' scale, but these guys are in-home names. They were one of the first likable robots to hit the silver screen, and George Lucas did a pheonomenal job on bringing the pair to life. They rank high on comedic quality.

2.Optimus Prime
Optimus Prime is the easiest robot to root for. Optimus Prime comes equipped with a fully operational arsenal and not to mention, he transforms into semi-truck. Mr. Prime rolls deep with a team of robots from outer space who is also here to save planet Earth. Autobots, Roll Out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. T-800

The Terminator T-800 is the best robot of all time. If you do not agree, you can get the hell out of town. We could not even think of someone who competes with Arnold's character. He is by far the most bad-ass robot to ever hit the silver screen. Did I mention that he comes from the future to rescue the savior of Earth? He is also the only robot to appear in two different films in the same series, fighting for 2 different sides. THE MAN.

  3. A robot is an autonomous device built to perform a certain task or tasks. Cyborgs, particularly those that have intelligence and can adapt to situations, aren't robots in the true sense of the term.
(T-800, Evil Bill & Ted, Robocop)
Mecha Godzilla is a mechanical monster. Sid 6.7 is an AI in a nanotech android body.
And no way are C3PO and R2-D2 'cool'.
