Talk about a money maker. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse debuted at the US box office this week with over $160m. The box office standings alone deserve applause. The Last Airbender (M. Night Shyamalan) came no where close with its premier to theaters across the nation with a gross of only $70m.
Back to Twilight....
I've been fortunate enough to have a girlfriend that enjoys going to the movies. She's also had me step outside of my comfort zone to see a few of her flicks. For example, the Twilight Series. I wouldn't say I'm hooked just yet on this series, but I do enjoy seeing the characters develop. So I tip my hat to Melissa Rosenberg.
I've been reading a lot online today, most people were not happy with the adaptation from book to movie for Eclipse. Lots of fans poured out into theaters to see what they had pictured in their heads. I do feel for those fans that saw it differently, but it is an adaptation of the book. Everyone can not be content with the way they turned out.
One thing I do agree with most fans is, the lack of dialogue. From what my girlfriend let me in on from the book, the scene where Edward and Bella are on the bed, is supposed to be huge. It was a real lacking scene in the movie. Specially since later in the film, they reference that scene plenty of times.
I feel there could have been a lot more developed ideas with Eclipse. I have never read the books, but even I can see that the film was full of a few holes. Summit Entertainment has hit the jackpot with the rights to the Twilight films and has obviously rushed the past 2 films into theaters before all of the new buzz lingers away.
In Conclusion:
Things I Liked: The scene where the Cullens and Werewolves team up to fight the "new-borns" (I'm a sucker for action, specially with mythical creatures). Character Development. Kellan Lutz (Emmit Cullen). IMAX Presentation.
This I did not Like : Everything about Kristen Stewart. Taylor Lautner would just not put a shirt on. They definitely rushed production. (Kristen Stewart wore a wig during the film because she had previously had it cut short for The Runaways. Lack of dialogue.
Some cool trivia:
-Paul Weitz and Drew Barrymore were considered for directors.
-It was revealed by Robert Pattinson in an interview that the censors required that the wolves have no genitalia whenever they appear on screen
-The first Twilight film to be released in a large screen format for IMAX presentation.
